In this episode of Chorley FC Stories, lifelong supporter Carl Morris reflects on more than five decades of watching Chorley FC. From standing on packed terraces as a young boy to witnessing cup runs, promotions and changing eras of the club, Carl shares the moments, crowds and characters that have shaped his life as a Chorley supporter.

In this episode of Chorley FC Stories, Carl Morris takes us on a journey through more than 55 years of following Chorley FC, sharing memories that stretch back to the early 1970s when he first began attending matches as a young boy with his father. Growing up close to Victory Park, Carl could see the floodlights from home and hear the roar of the crowd on matchdays, sparking a lifelong connection with the club that continues to this day.
Carl vividly recalls some of the biggest games and crowds from Chorley’s past, including memorable cup ties and the famous Lancashire Cup semi-final against Manchester United. He describes what it was like to stand among thousands of supporters packed onto the terraces, with queues stretching along the streets outside the ground and an atmosphere that captured the imagination of the whole town.
The conversation also looks back at Chorley’s FA Trophy adventures, including the dramatic tie against Wimbledon in the 1970s that attracted record crowds to Victory Park. Carl remembers the smoke from supporters’ cigarettes drifting under the floodlights, the terraces filled to capacity, and the sense of excitement that surrounded the club during that remarkable run.
Throughout the interview, Carl reflects on the many eras he has witnessed – from the Cheshire League years and Northern Premier League successes to more recent promotions and playoff victories. His memories highlight how the club has evolved over time, while still retaining the strong community spirit that has kept supporters coming back year after year.
For Carl, supporting Chorley FC has always been about more than just football. It is about friendships formed on the terraces, travelling to new grounds across the country and being part of a club that has remained rooted in its community for generations. His story captures the passion and loyalty of supporters who have followed the Magpies through every era of the club’s history.
This episode forms part of the Chorley FC Stories heritage project led by Chorley FC Community Foundation, capturing the voices and memories of those connected to the club so that the history and community spirit surrounding Chorley FC can continue to be shared with future generations.
Football clubs don't just exist on a pitch. They live in the memories of the people around them, the families who have followed the same club for generations, the volunteers who give their Saturdays without a second thought, the players who came through the ranks and never forgot where they started.
Victory Park is more than a ground. It's where people belong. Chorley Stories exists to preserve that, to make sure the voices of our community are recorded, respected, and shared for years to come.
Capturing the voices of Victory Park, from the terraces to the touchline. Real stories, real people, real community.
