In this episode of Chorley FC Stories, Jamie Vermiglio shares the story of his long and unique connection with Chorley FC, a relationship that has seen him serve the club in almost every possible role – as a player, captain, manager and now chairman.
Jamie looks back to his first arrival at Victory Park in the early 2000s, when he was invited to training after playing local football in Wigan. At the time he knew very little about non-league football, but quickly realised he had the opportunity to test himself at a higher level. After months of hard work and patience, he eventually broke into the first team, scoring on his debut and beginning what would become a long and memorable playing career at the club.
Over the following years Jamie became a key figure in the team, making hundreds of appearances and eventually taking on the captain’s armband. He reflects on the early conditions at the club, from limited facilities and small crowds to the strong camaraderie among players who were determined to succeed. Football during that period was built on resilience, teamwork and the shared determination to represent the club with pride.
The conversation also explores some of the challenges Jamie faced in his career, including a serious spinal injury that nearly ended his time in football. Despite the setback, he remained determined to stay involved in the game and continued to develop both on and off the pitch, balancing his football career with a successful role in education.
Jamie later returned to Chorley during a transformative period for the club, becoming part of the squad that helped spark a new era of success. He recalls the excitement of promotions, unforgettable playoff matches and the incredible atmosphere at Victory Park when supporters celebrated those achievements together.
Today, as chairman of the club, Jamie reflects on how those experiences have shaped his vision for the future of Chorley FC. His story is one of loyalty, resilience and dedication – a journey that mirrors the growth and ambition of the club itself.

Football clubs don't just exist on a pitch. They live in the memories of the people around them, the families who have followed the same club for generations, the volunteers who give their Saturdays without a second thought, the players who came through the ranks and never forgot where they started.
Victory Park is more than a ground. It's where people belong. Chorley Stories exists to preserve that, to make sure the voices of our community are recorded, respected, and shared for years to come.
Capturing the voices of Victory Park, from the terraces to the touchline. Real stories, real people, real community.
