ABOUT THIS EPISODE

In this episode of Chorley FC Stories, Mick Nash shares how a simple invitation from a neighbour led him to discover the unique atmosphere of Chorley FC. After many years of following Preston North End, Mick had gradually drifted away from attending matches, but a first visit to Victory Park quickly reminded him what he had been missing about live football. What began as a casual trip to see a game soon turned into season tickets and a regular place among a group of supporters who now watch the matches together each week.

Mick reflects on how easy it was to become part of the community at Chorley, where supporters can talk to each other, share the humour of matchday moments and enjoy the game in a relaxed and friendly environment. He describes how the smaller crowds create a different kind of football experience, one where you can hear the chants, the comments from the terraces and even the jokes shouted from the stands.

He also recalls an unexpected early connection with the club. As a 15-year-old he once travelled from Preston to take part in a trial at Chorley, finding himself playing against experienced first-team players in what was a memorable introduction to senior football. Although that moment didn’t lead to a football career, it created a link with the club that would resurface many years later when he returned as a supporter.

Mick’s story highlights how clubs like Chorley FC continue to attract new fans through their welcoming community spirit. For him, Victory Park has become more than just somewhere to watch football – it is a place where friendships are formed, laughter is shared and the enjoyment of the game is rediscovered.

WHY IT MATTERS

These Stories Deserve To Be Heard

Football clubs don't just exist on a pitch. They live in the memories of the people around them, the families who have followed the same club for generations, the volunteers who give their Saturdays without a second thought, the players who came through the ranks and never forgot where they started.

Victory Park is more than a ground. It's where people belong. Chorley Stories exists to preserve that, to make sure the voices of our community are recorded, respected, and shared for years to come.

“I still get a buzz when I walk onto Victory Park… after all these years.”

— Bernard Wilson, Chorley fan, 60 years
